The Tanzania research group of After the Single Use (ATSU) will bring together health-sector representatives, researchers and waste-management teams for an inception meeting in Tanga, one of the project’s proposed study sites.

Led by Dr Peter E. Mangesho, alongside Dr Amani Aneli and Dr Andrea Kifyasi, the group will introduce the project’s research into how healthcare systems have become dependent on single-use medical plastics, following devices from production and procurement through to use and disposal.

Presentations and group discussions will offer participants opportunities to share experiences, identify research priorities and explore questions around infection prevention, costs, waste management and environmental impacts. The meeting will begin a collaborative conversation with Tanga’s health sector, helping shape the research through local knowledge and experience.
